UPS, the United Postal Service, has generously given funding to proposals exactly like this one. Each of us worries and wonders about saving the planet. I would like to give the opportunity to my students to actually make a difference.
My students live in a rural, low economic region in Indiana.
Our elementary school sits on a property near a reservoir and attachs to a wooded area. My students would love the opportunity to explore and learn from nature. A previous teacher, who has long-since retired, created a brilliant wetland area, nature trail, and fossil dig for the students many years ago; however the areas are overgrown and require a lot of work and funding to re-establish. In collaboration with a nearby college, I've acquired some of the resources needed to improve these areas and re-establish the trail and wetland. What we need now are the tools for students to be able to explore, collect data, and study the wildlife that lives within these woods and wetlands.
My Project
My students need nesting boxes for birds, an animal tracks kit, bird feeders, and informational text on wetland and woodland creature. With the resources that I am requesting, children will be able to, once again, enjoy, learn from, explore, and study their environment. These children will flourish in their surroundings and develop a love and respect for their environment. These children will have a better understanding of their natural surroundings and the animals that live there.
I have tried several times to apply for funding for this resource, but due to the economy I've fallen short of my goal.
With the help from you and the local college, I can now see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am encouraged by UPS for funding these projects and allowing so many children the opportunity to learn from their environment and "Save the Planet" in the process.
