My Project
A calming corner is something that has been requested by my students since the beginning of school. We have been using some of our extra time before dismissal and built in time during community meeting to create a wish list of items students in grades 3-8 would like to have and relax with in the classroom. The students have finally put together the final list of decorations, fidgets, posters and sensory items.
A calming corner would allow students having a hard time to move into a different space in the classroom, take a safe break and return to their academics within 10 minutes.
Having a space where students can transition to a different space, have a small activity to complete, like a breathing activity, but still hear the lesson while it is happening will allow students to manage emotions and still get the lesson.
