Help me give my students a diverse collection by adding some nonfiction and picture books!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Fischer's classroom raised $668

My Students
As the school librarian, my job is to provide updated and relevant information to my students. The current nonfiction collection in my school is just not cutting it. Neither are the picture books! My school is made of mostly of African American and Hispanic students so diversity is a big concern.
Getting picture books that represent them and where they can see themselves having adventures or doing amazing things is crucial to creating a lifelong interest in reading.
My school is small, around 300 students, but this gives me a chance to get to know them individually. As a first year teacher, COVID has made this incredibly difficult. I would like to welcome them back with an updated collection.
My Project
These books are going to be used to update the library's rather dated collection. The age of the books averages in the early 2000s. I have a rather small budget to spend on materials and that, so far, has been used to buy recently released books.
My current goal to to supplement the collection with diverse picture books and nonfiction to ensure that my students have an engaging library experience.
I have also included 2 magazine subscriptions to my request. The Horn Book specializes in children's literature and will be very useful as I make my selections. School Library Journal will allow me to keep updated with current trends in other media centers around the country.
