My Project
As a special educator, I take pride in teaching my students independent work skills. Many of my students are very dependent on adults for most of their needs. This carries over to their work skills, and many of them can easily develop learned helplessness if they do not learn how to work independently.
Task boxes are wonderful for teaching students how to work in a structured, developmentally appropriate way.
Task boxes usually require specialized equipment and manipulatives that go beyond the scope of what a general education curriculum would provide. I am constantly looking for cheap materials to use to engage my students. It is very hard to find storage bins and other necessary items needed to put together a task box area that students can use that isn't extremely expensive. I am hoping with these materials, I can create new and even more engaging tasks for my students.
