My Students
Our school has a wide range of students who come from different backgrounds. Many of these students struggle with mathematics, which can be a challenge for a lot of people. When students struggle with a school subject it can demoralize them and sometimes even cause them to create havoc as a way to pull the attention away from their learning struggles. By helping these students find success in mathematics, even if they are small successes, we can help students become more involved and willing learners.
As the school librarian, one of my non-traditional roles is to work with students who need additional help in class and the library staff does this by pulling kids to work on their missing work.
We love being able to help them see what they are missing and find solutions to help them build self-efficacy.
My Project
Math is a difficult subject for many people, especially students who haven't had a normal school year in multiple years due to the pandemic. Math is one of those subjects that builds on itself and if you miss a concept or struggle to fully understand a concept then the following topics and years may suffer. One of the ways we can help students combat some of this loss is to make sure they have all the tools needed for success. This project is about purchasing needed calculators to help our students have some of those tools.
These updated calculators are easier to use, have clear notation, and will allow our students to understand the math easier.
The screen is larger and they are able to enter full expressions that look like what is written on their paper. By using these updated calculators, students will have a better chance to see more success than without.
