Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our high school is a small school with big school ambitions. The educators are continuously striving to make themselves better for the wonderful students who attend here. My students are English language learners who are recent immigrants to the United States.
Many of my students have experienced interrupted schooling due to various reasons beyond their control.
Most of my students are from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. My students are very eager to learn everything they can to make up for their lost learning time.
If I can provide them the necessary materials to catch up to their peers, my students will shine brightly. We need to show these students that we care and will do our best to help them in the classroom and in their new country.
My Project
The desks we currently have in our classrooms are old, dirty, and even dangerous! We are provided only a limited amount of money to purchase classroom furniture and it does not come close to what we need. If we were to outfit each classroom with new desks, it would cost almost $200,000! Therefore, we are trying to complete each classroom little by little.
I am asking for four new desks and chairs to complete a collaborative group space, which can be split up for independent work.
Our new desks would freshen up our classroom and make it a more exciting, inviting place to learn!
