This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have been employed in Austin for nine years and have built the Music and Drama Department from the bottom up. Being a low-income community and school, students are limited to the type of music education they deserve. Currently, I teach grades six through twelfth and I am the only music teacher on campus where I teach three hundred students during the year. Currently, I do not have a budget for my program and would like to do various programs for our students at our campus. We are in need of a stage, musical instruments, and theater props to teach and aid their talents in becoming successful, artistic individuals.
My students are very talented and deserve the best education in the overall Arts, fueling their drive to succeed in the Arts regardless of their economic status.
If granted the funds to support the Arts program, I would like to conduct spring musicals for the student's body and community. A stage would be of good use, lighting, audio equipment, costumes, and overall musical theater necessities. Being a Fine Arts teacher without a budget is difficult.
My Project
The keyboards and violins that I am requesting will inspire my students to keep up with their musical talents. All of my students are musically inclined and love to play and learn from each other in music class. The instruments will allow students to remain creative and express themselves through music. I believe music is essential for the soul and my students demonstrate this every day when they enter the classroom. The majority of my students love coming to music class to express themselves and feel a sense of belonging to something that caters to their talents.
