My Students

I am so proud to work with students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Students visit the library each week to learn about the various genres of literature, learn how text features help us find the information we need, and wrestle with the basics of research. We share books to learn about our world, learn about ourselves, and to experience how reading can lead us anywhere!

The students come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

That diversity creates a learning environment full of energy, enthusiasm and opportunities to share our knowledge.

My Project

Almost 500 students a week come to visit the library to learn and explore; however, the average age of our information texts is 18 years old. We have a number of books that still have Pluto as a planet! Other books don't reflect the current technology that surrounds our students every day and doesn't give them a glimpse of things to come.

Outdated materials make it impossible for students to understand their world as it is or gather accurate information for research.

These well loved books are also showing their age with dirty covers, breaking spines and missing pages.

With the addition of information texts (non fiction) to the library, we will be able to add books that contain engaging and current information on a wide variety of topics. Although we work to add to our information texts, our current budget does not allow us to make a large impact in any single school year. Every student and every teacher will benefit from a library filled with up-to-date information on topics that impact our world.
