I teach second grade in a middle/lower middle socio-economic area. We are a school with a large population of special education students.
My students are enthused about learning, and fortunately have access to an interactive whiteboard in my classroom, which I obtained through a grant. When I am using the Smartboard during lessons, the students are engaged and focused.
I would like to add a document camera to the technology available for my students. This would allow me to project multiple items on the board. Books could be projected (to make "big books" for them to read. Manipulatives used during math could be projected relieving the need for students to gather around me to try to see a demonstration. Student work could be displayed under the camera allowing them to share what they've written or drawn with the class. Additionally, when we study insects, plants, etc. those items could be placed under the camera for enhanced viewing by the class. I share students with another teacher, so this project would impact more than just my own class. I also offer my classroom to other teachers in the building to let them use the SmartBoard, and the camera would also be available to them
Technology is the wave of the future, and your support of this project will allow my students to benefit from the latest available technolgy to enhance their learning and to engage them in classroom lessons.
