This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an Urban population with all the earmarks of a struggling city. We have less new materials, and the one we have are not enough for every teacher, than other schools. I feel that my students are special because they face this every day and still come to school. And want to learn. They are eager to learn all that is available to them but it is very difficult to do some things virtually. They need the hands on experience to make the materials relevant.
My Project
I am requesting slides that are pre-made and slides to be made so that the students can get some experience with the microscope. Being able to investigate the world on their own is a powerful skill. Knowing that they are surrounded by fascinating things that they can't quite see make them inquisitive and eager to learn. Microscope skills are something that they need for college and I want to encourage my students to be as prepared for their life after High School as possible. I think that giving them as many experiences to understand the world around them is my job as an educator.
