My students need these STEM kits to explore and test presented problems. They can design, build, test, and revise to challenge their thinking processes.
Introducing STEM into the classroom is the opportunity to ignite passions and explore a whole new world for these students. There are 1 million + job opportunities open in the US that continue to go unfilled because they are not qualified or interested candidates! Students need to be prepared!
My students make up 1/2 of a multi-age combo classroom with 50 children.
These students took a placement exam at the end of the last school year and tested to have knowledge above and beyond their grade level peers, which is why they were placed in this "Explorer's Classroom". In addition, they demonstrated traits in giftedness. It is important to continue this knowledge by offering advanced opportunities in STEM.
My Project
These kits will be used in whole group instruction, as well as center based exploration. They will go through the engineering process of problem-solving, designing, testing, and improvement. These kits offer a variety of materials to do so. Who wouldn't want to design a car or a bridge? Who wouldn't get excited about creating coasters and towers or uncovering problems presented in our favorite fairy tales? I can not wait to begin implementing these materials!
These students are eager to learn and challenge themselves, but need the materials to do so!
They talk about what they want to be when they grow-up, but have no idea of the vast array of opportunities that can be made available to them through STEM based careers! It's my responsibility to ignite a new passion in these students!
