My students need technology: a Chromebook, Epson projector, printer, and ink cartridges. We have a no homework policy and all assignments must be completed in class! We need to be well equipped so that our students can use all available resources while in class!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. St. Georges's classroom raised $1,923

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being admitted to a vibrant and creative art school is not the easiest thing to do. While aware of the school's low acceptance rate, thousands of prospective students are competing for the spot. They want to sing, play music, dance, draw and write. Located in the middle of Wynwood's Art District in Miami, this school is THE place to be! I am privileged to teach the most talented and diverse students in Miami!
As I walk down the hallways, I can hear the music permeating through the walls.....the violas, cellos, pianos, violins, and saxophones- all are playing their instruments in syncopation.
The chorus rooms are filled with beautiful voices and as I peek through the dance studio's window, I can see the ballet dancers dancing en pointe.
In addition to their extraordinary talents, my students have varying abilities and they learn in an all-inclusive, safe environment. From English as a Second Language to gifted and those with varying disabilities, they engage in cooperative learning and everyone is accepted. When they walk into my class, they are eager to know what they will learn that day.
My Project
Remember when your Language Arts teacher used to write his/her lecture notes on the white board and distributes a class set of hand outs to read along with the class? Well, this is my classroom--in 2016! The looks from my students, when they look at my whiteboard filled with lecture notes as I hand them a hard copy of my PowerPoint. A student interrupts my announcement, with "where's your projector?" The classroom grows silent and all eyes are now on me...what do I say? With my teacher's salary, I can't afford one. I have to think quick..."ummm....Turn to page..." We have a no homework policy and all assignments must be completed in class, because the students are working actors, singers, dancers and artists outside of the school. Therefore, we need a Chromebook, Epson projector, printer and ink cartridges, to be well equipped, so that our students can use all available resources during class.
Requesting students to hand in a typed, double-spaced essay is always a challenge.
Some students do not have computers or printers at home. As a result, I have to accept essays that are handwritten, skipping every other line, on loose leaf paper- the same way I submitted my essay 35 years ago!
The materials requested will greatly benefit our students who desperately need to practice their typing speed and accuracy (the standardized tests are now becoming computer based), type their essays, print them out from our very own (tentative) classroom printer or submit them as attachments via email.
They will also be able to access the internet to research information, read about current events, conduct research online, create awesome presentations using our new projector, and access online educational tools that will help them improve their reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary skills.
