Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Next semester, our Peer Mentors plan on organizing engaging activities at lunch and after school to keep the students energized and connected as our school transitions to a new cell phone policy which will require students to lock their cell phones in pouches throughout the day. While this change is meant to foster focus and personal connections, it will be a significant adjustment for students accustomed to constant phone access. Our goal is to transform this policy change into an opportunity for students to rediscover the joy of face-to-face interaction and active participation. Peer Mentors will use these tools to plan events such as spirit weeks, art competitions, and team challenges that foster collaboration and school spirit. By promoting these activities visually with the color printer and organizing interactive sessions using the mobile dry erase board, we aim to help students develop social skills, reduce anxiety about the change, and find positive outlets for their energy during the school day.

The color printer, mobile dry erase board, and accessories we’re requesting will give the Peer Mentors the tools they need to design, promote and organize school wide events.

Our students are remarkable for their resilience and adaptability despite facing significant challenges like poverty and community violence. Many have grown into supportive leaders as Peer Mentors, taking on the responsibility of helping their peers thrive. With these tools, they’ll continue to make a meaningful impact by encouraging active engagement and a sense of belonging within the school. Our students’ enthusiasm and creativity, paired with the right resources, will make this project a success, ensuring that our campus remains a vibrant, connected community.
