My students need a digital camera, memory card, photo printer and printer supplies, plus supplies for art projects, like feathers, construction paper, paint and clay, that celebrate cultural diversity.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Art, in the classroom, seems to be getting lost due to the emphasis on preparing students for assessments. Help art return to the classroom. Within the classroom, it is a benefit to the students to weave multiple curriculum areas together. Art will be woven with the other curriculum areas.
My classroom is filled with students who love to learn.
We are a Title One school in California. These wonderful students come from supportive, hard-working families. These families make sure that the students are at school and ready to learn each and every morning, although they don't often have the resources or extra time to "get their hands dirty" at home with crafts like painting and making masks.
Our students pride themselves in how well they do academically as the majority come to school in kindergarten identified as second language learners. Their eagerness to learn and perform in English is inspiring.
My Project
This project includes a digital camera and accessories, art supplies to complete four art projects that showcase the cultural heritage of the majority of the population, and a project that will strengthen math skills with patterns and motif.
The camera and accessories will be used to photograph the students completing the projects and the completed projects. The pictures will then be loaded onto our classroom computer to add to our slide school of our "community." The printer will allow for prints to be instant in the classroom.
The art supplies requested will be used to make two different mask projects as many students only associate masks with holidays like Halloween and not with culture. Other materials will be used to fashion a Mexican bowl to help celebrate cultural heritage. The last project will use the foam pieces to create a collagraph print. These projects will address topics in language arts , social studies, science for animal masks, and math with the print project.
This project will give the students a wonderful opportunity to have "fun" art projects woven into the regular curriculum.
Many times we see a heightened interest in learning when students are allowed to explore in a new and different way. Help my students have fun while learning.
