My third-grade classroom is an exciting place for my suburban students from different cultures and economic demographics to learn and grow as scholars and citizens of a bigger world. They are taught and encouraged to work with others to challenge each other and themselves. It is a place where differences are celebrated and supported. As a class community, we understand that children learn in different ways and at different paces.
With that understanding in mind, students work together in teams to leverage each student’s strengths to help each other learn and grow.
Some students work best in groups, while others need some space to process information alone before engaging with others. Some students need hard copies of texts while others prefer digital or audio/visual access to those same or differentiated texts to best process and learn from them. The students are highly engaged in their learning and progress due to their input and investment in the process.
My Project
UNICEF Kid Power Bands will help my students in two ways. One benefit of the UNICEF Kid Power Bands is to encourage my students to be fit and exercise daily through group goal setting and rewards. The companion app will allow me to create teams, sync bands as a group, manage multiple band profiles, and track steps and impact. The UNICEF Kid Power Band tracks both steps and movement. It lets children track daily activity with an easy-to-read touch screen.
The best part about these UNICEF Kid Power Bands is that with each level of activity, UNICEF delivers therapeutic food packets to severely malnourished children.
These bands will help my students stay fit and empower them to become compassionate world citizens.
