Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students strive for success both in and out of the classroom. One way to ensure success is to provide students with a safe environment in which to learn. My students come from homes where they are first-generation American citizens and homes, where they will eventually become first-generation college graduates. The sought after American dream appears out of reach, but is actually attainable when students are provided with the tools needed for a safe and engaging learning environment.
Despite the adversities and obstacles my students and families face, they aim for success in everything they do.
Unfortunately, a new challenge facing their lives is COVID-19. Returning to school after months of remote learning is frightening, especially in terms of safety and health.
My Project
Flocabulary provides an awesome opportunity to introduce, practice, and review concepts related to all areas of the curriculum. On top of that there are weekly current events videos to highlight what's going on around the world in a way that is digestible for elementary school aged students. What's great is that students can use this resource independently in centers or when we work as an entire class. The videos are engaging and intelligent - not to mention catchy to boot! The songs are easy to remember and helpful when trying to apply a strategy or rule. The students love watching the videos in place of following along with a textbook explanation. It's short, to the point, and available to be repeated. It's a perfect package!
The digital format is something my students are more familiar and comfortable with.
They are engaged while watching and the musical numbers are much easier for the kids to remember the main "gist" of the strategy or rule. This is an awesome resource and a fun contribution to our Math and ELA blocks.
