My Project

My middle school literacy intervention students are hard-working, enthusiastic, and COURAGEOUS. Many of them experienced pandemic-related learning loss that affected the development of their foundational reading skills in elementary school. Now that they are in middle school, these students have chosen to empower themselves by participating in literacy intervention class, and bravely working to strengthen their reading skills. Every student shows up to class each day with resilience, and the readiness to learn and build litearcy skills to become a stronger reader.

Not only are my students resilient, they are also DRAMATIC- they deeply love Reader's Theatre!

In this collaborative activity, they "perform" scripts by reading parts aloud, and practice their fluency and prosody skills in the process. Help my students improve their fluency and prosody (reading with expression) by providing them with an iPad and more scripts. With an iPad, students will be able to record their performances. By recording their own reading, students can practice their parts, self-monitor, and make improvements to their fluency. As a group, they will be able to record their Reader's Theatre to share with other students.

Students can also use the iPad for Augmented Reality to create a setting for their performance by adding 3-D elements, photos to a physical setting. By creating and projecting visuals that go along with a script, students are able to strengthen and deepen their reading comprehension.
