it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Literacy stands as a cornerstone of education, yet many students in the community I serve leave high school with low proficiency due to factors like the pandemic, ESL backgrounds, and limited resources.
This project targets a co-taught classroom, where English Literature and ELD services are integrated.
With students from diverse educational backgrounds and varying English proficiency levels, the initiative aims to address these challenges in an underserved area of Denver.
Beginning this year and continuing into the next, our plan is to cultivate literacy through independent reading, which is known to enhance lexical reading scores and overall writing skills.
By providing books tailored to different reading levels while maintaining age-appropriate content, this project aims to facilitate meaningful independent reading experiences that both meet students' current abilities and gently challenge them.
Ultimately, beyond improving literacy skills, this project seeks to empower students, instilling confidence and fostering a genuine love for reading that transcends the classroom.
