it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In the heart of my diverse inner-city school, where newly arrived students from Mexico, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Brazil come together, I am committed to creating a nurturing learning environment. Seeking funding for my Academic Access class periods, I aim to provide resources like language translators, sentence starter posters, games, word building puzzles, STEM kits, and erasable whiteboard paper.
These tools are carefully chosen to enhance English language proficiency, foster individual accountability, and develop collaborative skills during role-playing, puzzle-solving, and problem-solving activities.
Engaging in communicative language teaching methods, my students will actively participate in tasks that require appropriate teamwork and interpersonal skills, creating an inclusive space where they can practice English with confidence. The comprehensive range of resources caters to the diverse needs of my 9th-grade refugee, migrant and immigrant students who are often below reading level in their own native language. My goal is for student-student learning and engagement to help our new arrivals feel a sense of belonging and success- that they feel seen, heard, and appreciated along their native English speaking peers.
