My Project
As a school social worker, I see firsthand how deeply mental health struggles impact our students—especially those from low-income families. Many of the students I work with carry the weight of trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress, but they don’t have the resources to get the help they need. One of the biggest barriers is simple: they don’t have access to a device at home. No laptop, no tablet, sometimes not even a reliable phone. That means they can’t attend online counseling sessions, even when services are available and free.
iPads would be more than just a piece of technology—they would be a doorway to consistent, life-changing mental health support.
For many of my students, privacy is also a major concern. Home isn’t always a safe or quiet space to talk openly about what they’re going through. Some live in crowded apartments with multiple family members, where finding even a few minutes of solitude is impossible. This is why having iPads available at school, after hours, is critical. We can create private spaces where students can stay late, log into their sessions, and talk freely without fear of being overheard or interrupted. These moments of safety and privacy can make all the difference in whether a student is able to open up and begin the healing process.
I've watched students transform when they finally receive support—when they feel seen, heard, and understood. But I’ve also seen students slip through the cracks simply because they didn’t have a way to connect. With your help, we can remove one of the biggest obstacles in their path.
