Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are thoughtful, curious, and resilient. They come to class each day ready to engage with big ideas, especially during our social justice units where they ask meaningful questions and challenge each other to think deeply. They care about fairness and inclusion, and I want to give them every tool possible to explore those themes with confidence and clarity.

Having a laptop in our classroom would make a tremendous difference.

It would allow me to project interactive read-alouds during our social justice units, so all students can access the same rich content, whether they’re reading at grade level or not. For my students with special education needs, this technology would help me create and display visuals, modify texts in real time, and incorporate assistive tools to support understanding.

Students would benefit directly from this resource through lessons designed to spark discussion, critical thinking, and empathy. For example, during a unit on activism and identity, students could engage with multimedia texts including videos, digital picture books, and news articles projected from the laptop. As a class, we could pause to analyze key passages, annotate together, and use visual supports to ensure every learner has access to the material. With the laptop, I can build interactive slide decks with embedded questions, real-time polls, and discussion prompts, helping all students participate whether they’re more comfortable speaking, writing, or clicking to respond.

The laptop would also allow me to create flexible tools like digital graphic organizers, voice-supported instructions, and adapted reading materials, which can be shared instantly with students. These supports empower students to engage with complex topics in ways that suit their individual needs and strengths.

In short, this laptop would help me create a more inclusive, engaging, and equitable classroom where every student can learn, feel seen, and contribute meaningfully to our shared learning.
