Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are currently enrolled in a Brooklyn public elementary school where they are exposed to a dynamic, but under-resourced arts program. Our kids make creative and energetic art that fills our school's hallways.
This year our students will be creating their own stuffed creature through the use of sewing and textile manipulation.
I have requested felt, polyester stuffing, tarn, glue sticks, and plastic sewing needles.
As well as being silly and fun, this project will help develop design-based problem solving skills as students transform their sketchbook drawing into colorful, 3-dimensional, stitched and sewn creatures.
This project will also reinforce writing and speaking skills since each student will create a short presentation about their stuffed creature.
