My Project

Unleash our creative kindergartners with a mobile green screen kit. Storytelling offers young children an outlet for creativity as well as practice in developing key skills in listening, speaking, presenting, body/behavior self-regulation, taking turns, attending, and speech. When this storytelling is captured on video, it provides an opportunity for families to see their child's growth over the course of a year.

This school year, we experimented with green screen videos as a way to present student writing.

Students respond to a topic like seasons or weather or special celebrations and write about it in class. Students then select a costume and share their ideas on camera. Videos are shared with families through each child's digital portfolio.

This year, kindergartners have been using a space in a busy hallway to film their videos. Teachers tape green butcher paper to a wall to get a "green screen" effect. Sometimes it's a little too loud in the hall. With your help, we would like to get a wireless microphone, a tripod, and a mobile green screen that can easily be set up anytime a creative kiddo wants to share something they've learned or tell a story. We selected green screen kit items that are portable and which work with mobile phones. This kit will make it easier to remove background noise in videos. The portable green screen will save our butcher paper and make it so simple and quick to set up. The tripod will help keep videos stable.

Having a simple video set up will help our kindergartners have more frequent opportunities for creative expression, and allow our families to see video artifacts of their child's progress throughout the year.
