Help me give my students the chance to read about this country's history, their ethnic roots, and people who are changing their world.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. White's classroom raised $454

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are about 11-13-year-olds who are mostly Dominican from Washington Heights in New York City. They do not know much about their ethnic history nor do they know much about U.S history. They are learning about activism and the injustices that people of color have faced since before the country was established. They are curious kids whose parents don't have all the answers nor access to give them answers. Many of my students want to learn more about the government and understand how people are elected. Curiosity should be funded and celebrated in a meaningful and impactful way!!
My Project
My students enjoy reading books, but, unfortunately, there are no historical fiction and non-fiction books available to them. Many of my students are curious about United States history and their own history but have no access to learn about their own history. Donating these books will help us cover all our history units from Native Peoples to the Civil War. My students are not used to reading non-fiction and desperately need to build these skills. I am hoping that every student can find a book with a historical time period that interests them and the do a final project showcase at the end of the year. Please help us meet this goal.
