Unity Through Percussion

My project needs 2 Native American and 3 Latin American Drums for our Drum Circle.

Drum Circles encourage children to cross cultural barriers. I am a Music Specialist for an Elementary School situated in a Middle Class suburb.

Due to budget cuts, there has been no money allocated for elementary-aged children in over 10 years. Children love to play drums and a Drum Circle would expand their horizons.

There are five drums which would be the basis of the Drum Circle. The Tom, Hand Snare, and Gathering drums are Native American. The Conga and Hand Bongo are Latin American drums. The concept of a Drum Circle is for the children to sit in a large circle on the floor. There are many rhythm patterns that the children learn and play which are authentic to Native or Latin American, African, and Middle Eastern music.

Through your generosity, you will make it possible for these children to experience first hand music from outside their own cultures. Diversity will be celebrated through the unification of music.
