What is there not to love when you spend your day with 23 five year olds? Every day is a new learning experience filled with curiosity and eagerness to persevere! Teaching in an inner city school in upstate NY, I have found that children at this age are sponges, that are always eager to learn and explore new things!
I have 23 Kindergarten students coming from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds, 100% of whom receive free lunch.
This year I have 11 ENL students who speak a variety of languages. I am so excited to engage this year's class! My goal is to help each child move into the 21st century by providing a classroom rich in engaging, hands-on materials and lessons.
My Project
I love the diversity a room full of ENL students brings to my class. I would like to use their cultures to help their classmates learn more about where they are from. I feel the books and materials I have selected will help guide my children when talking about where they are from and holidays they celebrate. I wish to use the passport books as a tool for children to keep track of the different places and cultures we will learn about.
I believe the differences these children bring to our class are a gift that should be explored and celebrated.
We all have something we can share and learn from. I would like my students to have a greater understanding and appreciation for differences. I want each of my children to respect their differences and grow as people.
