My Students

Many of the students who attend our rural Maine school are very talented academically, athletically, and artistically. Many of the students are from low-income families and work hard to balance the demands of school, home, and working their own jobs. They are very passionate about what they are interested in and are always ready to share it with the community. Many students have been recognized at the state level.

No matter their circumstances, my students don't let anything stop their drive to succeed in any field, whether it is academic, athletic, or career-related.

My Project

At my school, we have a Special Olympics/Unified basketball team that plays other schools in the area. This team allows kids in life skills programs and nonathletes to play a sport that has a large crowd cheering them on. It is one of the few opportunities that kids are on an even playing field with no judging of ability. It is just about fun.

This project will give our players some gear of their own and nothing that had to be shared with other teams or hand-me-downs from others.
