My Project
My students are bright, curious, and eager to see the world beyond their own experiences. They deserve the chance to explore global stories that deepen understanding and empathy. That’s why I want to provide them with a class set of Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.
Persepolis is a powerful graphic memoir that shares Satrapi’s coming-of-age story during the Iranian Revolution.
Through stark, expressive visuals and personal narrative, it allows students to truly visualize and feel the effects of revolution, censorship, cultural change, and the struggle for personal identity in the midst of political upheaval. It’s an accessible yet deeply meaningful text that invites students to think critically about freedom, resistance, and human rights.
Alongside Persepolis, students will read informational texts for historical context and analyze primary sources to understand the complexities of the Iranian Revolution. Your support ensures every student has their own copy to fully participate in reading, discussion, and meaningful reflection on these vital global themes.
