Understanding History Through Historical Biographies

My Students

Our students at our Title I Middle School in North Carolina have undergone a disruption to their learning due to the pandemic. My Social Studies class is filled with 12-13-year-old students. They are a diverse group of students from many different cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and learning levels. My students are compassionate, energetic, and inquisitive.

My Project

"The Story of: Biography Series" is a book series that highlights the stories of women, BIPOC, and other people from typically marginalized groups. I believe this book series will be an excellent resource for my students that may struggle with reading due to a learning difference and/or they are English Language Learners.

Teaching students of varying reading levels can be difficult especially when they want to read more interesting stories.

By donating to this project you are introducing a series of books to students who are striving to become better readers. Each book comes with a glossary of easy-to-understand definitions for some of the more advanced words and ideas in the book. Students can take a fun quiz to make sure they know the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of the person's life they are reading about.
