My Students
Do you remember reading a play in school when everyone picked parts and read their lines in a funny voice? My students want to do more! They want to get inside the minds of the characters and really become them.
My students are amazing, creative and driven seventh and eighth graders.
They usually come from low income families and are mostly of minority descent. The school is an art school but is still part of a public district. The students have to audition in an art to be admitted but their academic levels run the spectrum from low to high.
My Project
My students will use these books and this camera to jump into the world of drama and make it their own. They will use performance to explore the motivations, objectives and personality of each character in the play. This approach takes the fear and dullness out of classical drama, especially Shakespeare, and allows students to enjoy and understand the experience!
The classroom performances that my students put on will be recorded and distributed to them to share with their family.
They can relive their triumph over the literature whenever they wish! With these resources my students can develop a love of drama that will improve their academic abilities throughout high school and college.
