Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are incredible and bring such joy into the classroom everyday. I adore working with them and learning from them just as much as I enjoy teaching them. First graders offer a unique view into the world that forces me to stop and look at the world around me through different lenses.

However, these students are dealing with real, and often confusing, emotions as they navigate the post-pandemic world.

This creates situations in which they struggle even identifying what they are feeling, let alone finding ways to work through these feelings. Kimochis and the Spots of Feeling are incredibly kid-friendly social emotional tools which allow students alternate ways to access emotions and give them the strategies they need to begin to work through these feelings in healthier ways. I have seen them used successfully in various settings and I am hopeful to get them into my classroom and to begin using them with my students.
