Understanding A Long Walk to Water: Independent Reading
Help me give my students books to help supplement our whole class text. The more kids read, the better readers they become!

My Project
We are reading A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park in 7th grade. This is a heavy book that touches on topics such as war, separation from family, what it takes to survive, and hope.
In order for students to best understand the experiences characters go through, it is important to read and gather information from other sources.
This not only builds understanding, but also empathy, respect, and help them to develop and strengthen their own capacity for perseverance.
Students will be reading these books independently to help supplement their understanding of our class novel. They will draw out similarities and differences between the two stories, and gather more evidence of what it takes to be a survivor.
