My Students

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” ― Thomas Edison

It might be hard to imagine but my special education students have so much in common with Edison; they understand what it means to persevere in the face of failure and constantly stay positive.

I have the privilege of working with kids who come to me every day knowing they’re going work, they’re going to stumble, but they’re going to learn.

They do it with a smile on their face because eventually they get their “light bulb” moment. The moment when their faces light up with the pride of understanding and success, it’s amazing to see. My Edisons come from diverse and varied backgrounds, but despite these challenges, they don’t fail. They find 10,000 ways to learn.

My Project

My school is in the midst of creating a multi-sensory room to help students develop a healthy social emotional mindset. This room will provide special education, and general education, students the opportunity to learn coping and de-escalation strategies in a controlled and calming environment.

Thanks to your generous donations, we can achieve our goal of providing students access to appropriate sensory tools to help them regulate their emotional and behavioral responses.

Sensory calming vests, like the Snug-N-Hug, are designed to put deep, even pressure in the outer arms and torso. This pressure vest is a must have sensory tool for children with attention deficit, sensory processing and/or autism spectrum disorders to help them reduce difficult behavioral issues often associated with sensory processing issues. Weighted lap pads also provide the deep pressure students require in order to feel grounded, enabling them to sit better for longer periods and pay closer attention for improved learning.
