My Students
"The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary." This sign hangs in our classroom and the students know how true this is. They also know it takes a lot to succeed. Being organized is a key and having a safe place to put their important papers would be a great help to them.
A majority of my students do not have money for folders, school supplies or even food.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: their parents are struggling. They are amazing young people though! They have set high expectations for themselves and they have big dreams for their future, as do I. Every day, they come to school worrying about their families and all the problems that await them at home. However, you wouldn't know it from all the effort they put into their work. Most importantly, you wouldn't know it by the smiles on their faces and the laughter that fills our classroom.
My Project
My students need mailboxes to help them be organized. I have supplied all my students with folders for those important "take home" notes. Unfortunately, it seems that these folders become ripped and misplaced while being shoved in desks. By having the mailboxes, they can keep all their important notes and work in a safe place until the end of the day so they can take them home. This will also help free up some desk space; therefore, giving us more work room (always a plus!).

Once these papers make it home safely, their parents can read them which will hopefully encourage more parental involvement. More parental involvement=successful students!
