My Project
One of the cornerstones of historical thinking is to bring to light stories that have been obscured by the past. We often ask “what story is being told?” But what we should be asking is “what story is NOT being told?”
One particularly untold story is that of the courageous Black citizens of Greenwood Tulsa, and the massacre that decimated their thriving community.
We are asking for class sets of the book “Blackbirds in the Sky”, a text that uses primary source images and interviews with survivors to recreate the events of that fateful day. With this book we hope to help students understand the importance of learning about hidden histories and how we honor the past in the present.
