The definition of art is "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power" The students I teach come from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
There is no way they will truly understand the meaning of art if they aren't able to actively participate in it.
The kids I have need to feel the paintbrush in their hands, the clay run through their fingers and see their vision come to life.
Due to COVID children unfortunately lost their avenues to creativity, and because of this pandemic children are eager to learn and create without the boundaries of what they can and can not do. When they come to my class they are so excited and curious about what they are going to do, and I try my best not to disappoint them. Sadly children now a days aren't always able to talk and fully express themselves and art is the best outlet for them to do that. All I am looking for is a little help to make that happen.
My Project
The items I have listed are common necessities. My goal is to open the students eyes to new ideas when it comes to art. Most of these students have participated in no form of art this past school year, and have yearned to do something creatively. I just want to put the spark of art and expression into their lives again.
A few activities I would like to incorporate are the different types of art that are associated with other ethnicities and cultures.
these children need to know that there is more to life than what they see. They will learn that they can learn a lot about other cultures through art.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
