Ultraviolet Light Lab

Help me give my students supplies for a UV light hands-on lab as we explore various parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.

My Students

My students are in 8th grade. Of the 130 students, about 80 of them are IB students. However, each one of my students brings a love of science and curiosity to learn more. We will be learning about astronomy in the near future and my students are extremely interested in space. We live close to NASA and SpaceEx and a lot of our students' parents work with these organizations. This love of space gets my students excited for our semester in astronomy.

My Project

As my students get ready to learn about the different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, I am always looking for ways to incorporate engaging labs to make learning authentic. By using UV handheld lights, UV beads, and different SPF lotions on petri dishes, the students will be able to see the power of UV light.

Bringing hands-on activities to a science classroom is essential.

These materials can be used year after year. Therefore, the lab will reach far more than the 130 students that I have this year. This lab follows our Florida science standards and allows students to be involved in their learning process.
