Our weightlifting team consists of passionate and dedicated members whose lives have been positively impacted by the sport lifting. Our students travel from all over the New York City Metropolitan area to attend. Our school is a select STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school in partnership with Columbia University. School is very important to our students but having a sports program provides learning opportunities that we don't always get in the classroom (e.g. sportsmanship, optimism, confidence, teamwork, etc.).
Our unique lifting team consists not only of students of color but also individuals who have not typically joined traditional sports.
The team is only 2.5 years old but has already become so popular with the students. It provides many athletes a way to work with others but also challenge themselves individually. They learn techniques that can be used for competition but also to just get fit and healthy.
These are students who have lots of potential, and this is a team that needs support to withstand the test of time, as it is part of a 6-12 school where middle school students look up to the team need it to last long enough for them to also join.
My Project
The ultimate Frisbee team at our school started just before the pandemic hit! The first team ever put together by students, unfortunately, didn't get their chance to start immediately. This didn't stop the team! They continued to do at-home drills and when the state started opening up, they brought their game day attitude and swept through the city with so many wins!
The team is comprised of a group of very passionate and dedicated young men of color who want to take their game to the next level!
The Ultimate frisbee team is a place where students can come together and not only hang out but also get some healthy exercise. It is also a safe place where students who traditionally didn't take part in athletics found a new home as it is a no-cut team and is willing to teach all who want to play!
