Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Traditional resources in the 21st century are just not enough to spark students' interest in learning. "Great teachers show their students how to move mountains for themselves." I want to open the minds of my students and empower them to reach their ultimate goals in the fields of math and science.
Most of my students are Hispanic.
They love to create and explore concepts when conducting experiments, both in Science and Mathematics. The majority of my students come from a low socioeconomic status, therefore many of my students don't have access to materials needed to do research and exploration at home.
My Project
My students will use interactive STEM learning centers which include project-based activities that encourage collaborative problem solving. This comprehensive kit introduces STEM careers at a level that’s appropriate for students. These materials have a complete set of books and posters that provide helpful background knowledge about more than 20 different STEM careers to support college and career readiness!
Students will be using interactive programs such as hands-on projects that include solving three different real-world challenges, saving a town from a flash flood, rescuing a bear from a well, and guiding a family across a bridge .
The kit includes three different labs with all materials necessary for children to build an airplane, a car and a windmill as well as eight full-color books highlighting a variety of fascinating STEM careers. Each student has a journal that assists in the tracking of progress through all four steps of the design process; therefore, students can learn from their mistakes and improve their designs. The activity resource book includes thirty STEM projects that kids complete using everyday materials. For each project, students are guided through the design process step-by-step as they plan their design and create their model, make improvements, and reflect on what they’ve learned.
