Ukuleles to Inspire a Love for Songwriting and Music Playing

My Students

My students include 7th graders whose families have chosen to attend a charter school focusing on arts and personalized learning. They come from all around the southern areas of San Diego county.

I love knowing that I'm building the next generation of artists, performers, and thinkers.

I want to be able to provide them with the environment and resources that they need to grow and thrive.

There are so many students that can be truly engaged in their learning thanks to arts integration. Some of my students are wonderfully talented at fine arts, dance, or music, and some of them are just beginning to cultivate an interest. My goal is to help each of them reach their fullest potential by constantly integrating art into their learning.

My 7th-grade class is a self-contained classroom. I teach math, science, history, and English, but I am also the supervisor for our Board Games & RPG Club as well as Student Council.

My Project

My students work each week on Passion Projects, and I want to give them more options for integrating music into our learning. We have a few ukuleles on-site, but they are old and have largely fallen into disrepair. My students still do their best to play them, but I know it would make a world of difference for them to have better options.

Students really enjoy playing music; it's a great way to teach them the value of practice and a love for learning.

I play ukulele myself, so I'm able to work competently with students to teach them the basics of playing/songwriting. The students would learn to take care of these instruments as well as how to use them to cover songs & create their own.
