Ukuleles For Music Class

Help me give my students 26 ukuleles so that we can learn a new instrument.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Swedberg's classroom raised $817

My Students

I teach almost 500 kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade students in Kansas. 35% of my students receive a free or reduced-price breakfast and/or lunch. There are also many special education students and ELL students (English language learners). I try to find new and interesting ways to help my students learn using music.

I am using a music program called Quaver where I can access many interactive ukulele songs.

The ukulele songs show students how to read the music, what fingers to use as they play the song, and also shows students how to correctly play the ukulele. I will be using ukuleles with 5th graders. I also have the option to print music for my students so they can check out a ukulele to practice at home. Students will spend part of their time in class learning and refining their ukulele skills. By learning ukuleles in 4th grade, students will be provided with a skill set that will smooth their transition and enhance their experience playing band and orchestral instruments.

My Project

My students need ukuleles! They are an easy-to-learn and teach students how to read music. Students will learn to play in groups and individually. Learning to play builds self-esteem and helps students transition to more difficult musical instruments later. We need a class set of 26 soprano ukuleles. The Quaver curriculum teaches you all the basics of playing the ukulele.

By donating to this project, you are providing my students with a chance to learn something that will benefit them for the rest of their lives, whether they choose to pursue music or not.

Students will have a string instrument to use during class. They will be able to play and create their own songs. By playing the ukuleles, students will be motivated to play a band and orchestra instrument and will have a chance to enrich their lives with music.
