Our Middle School is part of an independent school district in Kentucky. There are about 400 students in our school between 4th and 8th grade. We are a Title I School and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students are of low socio-economic status and would never be able to afford lessons on an instrument, such as the ukulele.
Having a classroom set of ukuleles would give them a wonderful opportunity to experience something new.
My Project
Students need hands-on experience when it comes to creating music. With a set of classroom ukuleles, my students will learn basic chords, chord progressions, and strumming patterns to many styles of music. They will also learn to accompany themselves, as well as their classmates, in singing. They will also be able to learn basic skills to create original songs.
Private lessons on instruments can be very expensive, but a set of ukuleles would give my students the opportunity to learn at no cost to them!
In addition to learning new musical skills, students will have a chance to express their emotions and be creative in a positive way.
