Ukuleles- Be My Musical Hero!

Help me give my students the ability to expand their musical knowledge and performance skills. Help me introduce instrumental music into the curriculum. Ukuleles are great way to inspire them to learn musical creation and composition.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. B.'s classroom raised $1,185

My Students

I teach General Music at PHES in South Carolina. It is a Title I school, where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students are full of love, life and creative energy. I have a large, bright and clean space for teaching music, but could use many things to provide opportunities to all students at various levels of learning.

Ukuleles are happy sounding and easy to learn instruments.

Students will learn chords and strumming patterns that are easily transferable to the guitar. The size of the instrument suits their small hands and bodies, making them easier to manage.

Instrumental music coordinates hand-eye and fine motor skills, and activates both sides of the brain.

My Project

When every student has an instrument, they are more engaged. When they have to share or wait for a turn, the teacher quickly loses the audience.

Ukuleles students can combine melodic, harmonic and chordal playing and singing, all at the same time.

Students have 4 simple to learn (and master) notes immediately upon picking up the instrument. These 4 strings/notes can create literally hundreds, maybe thousands of easy to learn songs. Upon learning only two to three basic chords, the world of music opens wide.

Students are sometimes reluctant singers, but with a ukulele in hand, they are often motivated to sing while they learn to play.
