"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." Victor Hugo
Students at our elementary school regularly sing, dance, and play small percussion instruments.
Our school is a Title I school in a small southern town near a military base. Our town was rated the fifth most patriotic town in the United States! Our nearly 800 students are a very diverse group who love music class. They receive music instruction once a week. They eagerly wait for their music classes! I am fortunate to teach in a wonderful school where teachers are supported and student learning is a priority.
My Project
Students at HES regularly dance, sing, and play small classroom percussion instruments. However, we would love to get our hands onto some ukuleles to learn how to play. We would love to play along to pre-recorded music, but ultimately, we would love to play and sing songs with no other accompaniment.
Ukuleles will help my students with fine and gross motor skills.
Not only do they have to hold it and strum, but they will also have to use the correct fingers on the proper frets and strings. Ukuleles will also help students with keeping the steady beat and strumming accompaniments. The best part is: Ukuleles are fun!
