My Students

As the Visual and Performing Arts Teacher at my school, I get to interact with my elementary students in fun and engaging ways. From art projects to musical performances, I try to provide students with experiences that allow them to express themselves in fun and creative ways.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but through visual and performing arts, ALL students are provided opportunities to shine.

Some students who may be struggling academically have found greater success through music and art.

My Project

My 6th grade music students currently learn the recorder as part of their music curriculum. I would like to expand their experience to include other musical instruments, including the ukulele.

The ukulele is a user-friendly, affordable instrument that is used in a variety of musical genres.

It travels well and is very manageable in a classroom setting. As a small, light, portable and relatively quiet instrument, it can be taken and practiced almost anywhere. It's effective as a solo instrument but also in a group setting. Ukuleles can be used to play melody, harmony, and rhythm, and allow for singing and playing at the same time.
