Ukes are for You!

My students need these amazing ukuleles to learn to collaborate musically in new and exciting ways beyond the ensemble! We need headphones to use garageband, noteflight, musescore (and more!) in our music computer lab!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Lord's classroom raised $2,245

My Students

My high school has about 1,000 kids with over 60% minorities, 70% high needs, and more than half of our students are considered economically disadvantaged. Those stats may be staggering for most people, but I know these students do not let anything (especially stats) hold them back. We are an arts magnet school with a thriving dance, theater, art and music department. It is such a special place to be and I feel so fortunate to be a part of it!

We're proud to say our students are confident, independent and excited to make music together!

These students are college-bound and amaze me every day with how hard working and talented they are! Every day we see around 250 to 300 students creating and performing. They dive right into every challenge presented to them with determination and a smile on their face - a constant inspiration!

My Project

After teaching and watching students explore the ukulele over the years, I have found that they are magical! Ukuleles free students to find their voices, be less inhibited and enjoy music in ways they may not have otherwise anticipated! Students at any skill level can collaborate together and enjoy their accomplishments. Ukes are also a gateway to learning chords, tablature and may lead to guitar and bass skills, which most band students would otherwise never approach.

In my experience, ukuleles positively change the way students interact with music.

Sturdy headphones in a music technology lab are key for reducing distraction and noise in a learning environment. We are so grateful to have a technology lab available for our music students and are so excited to get some fantastic projects under our belts! These headphones tie in easily with one component of our small ensemble and ukulele curriculum which is for students to collaborate with each other by composing or arranging a piece and then to record what they have accomplished.
