Our Elementary is a small rural school with tremendous community support and love. Music Class offers way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, and the use of percussion instruments. My classroom focuses on action based learning, creating with our whole body and using games and hands on manipulatives to learn music. Music is no longer a sit and sing class but a highly engaging fun filled subject.
Due to a wonderful history in our community we have many 3rd and 4th generation students at our school.
Parents and grandparents alike are proud of our music program as one grandparent reports. "You have sought and found those various talents and interests of the children and nourished them. The children appeared confident and free and that is so important in developing talents and fueling passions." Because of this commitment and passion our students were recently honored by our Chamber of Commerce. Please consider supporting our amazing school.
My Project
The Music Department at Stinesvlle Elementary would like to begin ukelele instruction from second grade through fifth.
Ukelele's are compact, take up less space and are easier to learn to play than guitar.
Because of this, instruction can begin at younger grades and, thus, more students will be impacted by the program. Because of their size, storing them is easy (we are in phase 2 of this initiative with a cart already secured.)
While playing ukelele's, students will be exposed to the elements of music; melody, harmony, rhythm, form, tempo, dynamics and tone. Students are already engaged in hands on instrument play, singing and dancing but this introduction may be all some students need to become thoroughly involved in music.
Don't forget that music is math and supports math concepts being taught in the classroom.
