There are so many benefits for children who have the opportunity to play a musical instrument. My goal is to put a ukelele in the hands of every 5th grader who enters my music room each week.
Our elementary school has a high population of Latino children and music is one way to bridge a connection with them.
I play my ukelele frequently when teaching my students new songs. They call it a little "guitarra," and get so excited whenever I let them strum while I play. I would love to give my students the experience of being able to accompany themselves as they sing songs in both Spanish and English.
Also, playing the ukelele would be such a positive outlet for students who experience high levels of anxiety. Making music is a way for kids to express themselves and create lifelong connections. Your donation can help support our underserved youth and send the message, "You've Got a Friend in Me."
