My Students
I work with approximately 110 amazing sixth graders. I am currently teaching my first ever group of students in a fully virtual world, which has its challenges and rewards all the same. I have many students whose first language is Spanish and whose first language is English, but have chosen to be a part of my district's Two-Way Immersion program, and are fluent in both English and Spanish. My students are so talented and unique in all of their own ways. I work towards are a fully inclusive classroom for students of all abilities. When my students enter sixth grade, they are wide-eyed and anxious. When they leave sixth grade, they are confident, bold, and ready for what lies ahead of them in middle school!
My Project
At my school, we are very lucky to have Apple devices for all of our students to use. This often makes learning a breeze, especially virtual learning! However, as I look to our future heading back to school in person, I've quickly realized my students need a better way to type essays! Poking away at a "keyboard" on an iPad is tedious and frustrating for nearly all of my students.
Essay writing can be a daunting task, but having a keyboard to type on will be create one less hurdle to jump!
In 6th grade language arts, we are learning the basics of essay writing, and typing is one of those essential skills. Without a proper keyboard, it is hard for my students to reach their full writing potential. Having bluetooth keyboards to pair with our iPads will be a serious game-changer for my students as they learn to write essays.
