My Students
My students are all inner city youth with the elementary sitting in the middle of subsidized housing. All of the students qualify for both free breakfast and lunch. Many stay at school for free dinner and the after school programming.
Most of my students love coming to school because they feel loved, safe and comfortable at school.
For some, school is the only place they feel safe and loved. However, with COVID, my students are learning remotely.
Too many of the students have endured extreme trauma: physical, emotional, sexual abuse, extreme poverty or have witnessed domestic violence at a very young age.
My Project
My students are all from high risk demographics. My district is taking precautions to protect both the students and the staff by providing remote learning for the students. Prior to the school year beginning, I thought I was preparred. However, I have found that it is very difficult to provide interactive lessons with my students when I cannot see them in Zoom while I am sharing my screen. As a school counselor, it is important to be able to read the students faces/reactions during class lessons, group therapy and individual counseling. Please help me do this!
